The Marine Institute is well placed to support the research, testing and technological development needs of a wide range of clients. Its staff have expertise in established and emerging technologies, experience in a broad range of marine sector-based activities, and involvement in local / regional / national and international stakeholder groups.

Research collaborations

Successful research collaborations are important to us and our partnerships extend worldwide. We value the relationship with all our external partners irrespective of the scale of activity. Regionally, our recent industrial research partners have included DML, Plymouth Marine Laboratory, The Marine Biological Association, J&S Marine, Qinetiq, Rolls Royce, BAe Systems and Pendennis Shipyard.

Consultancy Clients

Our client base is international and reflects the many strengths we have on offer to businesses and other organisations. Our recent client list includes The United Nations Office for Project Services and UK Government Departments such as the MOD, DEFRA and the SWRDA. Industry clients include Halcrow Group Ltd, Scott Wilson, Princess Yachts, and IT Power.

Project Management

Business professionals within the Marine Institute can bring
many years of project development and management experience to provide research programme management or to develop knowledge transfer activities.

Graduate Recruitment

Over 1500 students a year take a marine-related course at the University of Plymouth. This provides businesses with a wealth of well-qualified, highly motivated, talented candidates to choose from. Placements are available through a variety of knowledge transfer schemes lasting a few months up to three years.

Research Services

The Marine Institute's staff have proven and recognised ability in research, particularly collaborative and applied research. They will work with businesses in defining research needs and engage with research partners in the delivery of relevant R&D.

Internationally renowned experts provide a range of services including research, testing, business innovation support, product assessment, business process analysis, or expert witness work.

Training & Professional Development

The Marine Institute supports teaching, learning and skills development and can provide to businesses bespoke services with specific learning outcomes for individuals or groups. Events can be designed from half-day seminars through intensive one to three week courses, to part-time courses run over the course of a year.
