The Geomatics group is based within the Faculty of Science and Technology (Plymouth University). Its areas of interest include coastal zone management, hydrography, geodesy, GIS, GPS, meteorology, navigation & remote sensing. The aims of the group are determining:

links with commercial organisations
The principal means by which this is realised is through the local evening meetings of learned societies and professional institutions (The Hydrographic Society, IMarEST, RICS, CICES). Academics were key to the commencement, organisation and continuance of these and they form focal points for the delivery of commercial practice and the delivery of research. Students regularly meet with professionals and representatives of key employers.
The group also teaches undergraduate/postgraduate courses in:
Four organisations (Fugro, Swathe Services, CICES and the Hydrographic Society) award prizes to students on these courses.
