Our Facilities
The University of Plymouth has made a very significant investment in upgrading and developing appropriate aquarium and wet lab facilities for conducting nutritional investigations on a wide variety of cultured fish species. These comprise dedicated recirculation systems that are under environmental control in terms of water quality, temperature and photo period regulation.
Both freshwater and marine finfish can be contained with our facilities for both temperate and warm water species of interest. Additionally, we have a specialised area for the production of experimental diets and feeds with equipment for mixing and pelleting.
Feed Formulation (Linear Least Cost Formulation) is an area of expertise with advanced software (FeedSoft ™), used routinely. for both experimental and consultancy work.
The unit also comprises a large analytical laboratory and supporting staff to enable full proximate composition of feed ingredients and diets. Specialised equipment exists for mineral and vitamin analysis such as HPLC and GC.
