Innovate fosters applied research and commercialisation opportunities, ideas exchange and technology transfer, bringing the applications and understanding of Creative Industries expertise to a wider context.

What are the Creative Industries?

We often use the description developed by Culture South West;

'knowledge based enterprises thriving at the interface between creativity, technology and business, producing marketable products and services whose economic value lies their intellectual property'.

An example of the Creative Industries might also include, creative and original thinkers who can transform a concept, its aesthetic and application; for improved design, an exploration of principles, an expansion of opportunity and greater understanding of a sensual, aesthetic and cultural experience.

The Creative Industries are cited by DCMS as a key driver of the UK economy and instrumental for increasing quality of life, aspirations and wealth.

Specifically..

 

We build upon expertise in 3D imaging and reproduction technologies, product and graphic design, curatorial, sculptural and fine art practise, to invent new applications and solutions for industry, often with associated intellectual property assets. We believe in creating a culture of enquiry and actively engage university expertise and resources to foster innovation. By combining industry and public sector expertise we carry out projects which generate unique and useful applications, benefiting all involved.

A wide range of expertise from both within and outside the University are included as part of our knowledge transfer activities, maximising opportunity for individuals involved; whether students, graduates or professionals.

Innovate offers the opportunity for carrying out research and development or specific projects for both the public and private sector, providing access to a wealth of creative expertise and talented graduates.
