A demonstration field site near Milford on Sea, Hampshire, has been chosen for which a
suitably long record of historical data exists. This
falls within the boundaries of the newly created Channel Coastal Observatory
(CCO), a leading and innovative
alliance between local authorities on the South Coast that will supply essential
data and expertise. Calibration data will
also be collected at this site comprising wave climate, sediment transport and
state-of-the-art coastal video (ARGUS). The team is well placed to exploit current advances being
made in the EU COASTVIEW
project of which one of our investigators was the principal
coordinator. Recorded pictures from the Milford ARGUS system may be seen at http://argus-data.wldelft.nl/sites/milford/2007/

Regular beach surveys are being conducted through 2007 using GPS equipment. A temporary groyne was built on the beach in September 2007 to monitor longshore transport. This phase of the experiment lasted two months, and was accompanied by daily beach surveys. The groyne was removed at the end of November 2007.
The location of the chosen field site can seen on a map here.
